Site History
CHARLESWINCHESTER.COM was first launched in January 2005 because the author found that other M*A*S*H websites were too focused on Hawkeye. After gaining some support from other fans of the character the ideas for the site became reality and on 27th January 2005, the first version of CHARLESWINCHESTER.COM was launched. In those days the site was created using templates provided by the hosting company and conained just a few images and information pages. The site moved away from the template design a few months later but the layout was kept relatively simple. In March 2005 Major Winchester's Fan Forum was also launched, giving fans a place to talk about the character and other aspects of the show without the bias being on any of the other characters.
The site underwent several design changes and on the second anniversary an update was uploaded which would be the design of the site for qute a long time.
Due to lack of activity on Major Winchester's Fan Forum, it closed down in 2007 and discussions were merged with The Stiers Place. The website also spent a long period of time due to a Malware scare caused by linking to another website. Following that the site was put back online and work began on a new layout for the site. Unfortunately the site's hosting expired and the files were lost due to a backup faliure, It looked like the site's future was doomed.
When The Stiers Place website came offline shortly afterwards it was decided that as there was already an existing site online for information about David Ogden Stiers, the site's format would be changed to more of a community driven site, freeing up time for work on other websites.
Work began on the new version of CHARLESWINCHESTER.COM in May 2009, some content from the original site would be cut from the new version but the basic information and the images section would remain.
